uan Mata must be going through quite the case of déjà vu with Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Manchester United.
The Special One and his not so special Juan have a checkered history together.
Mourinho forced Mata out of Chelsea two years ago even though the Spaniard was the club’s player of the season for two consecutive campaigns and now there are fears that he could do the same thing to the diminutive playmaker at Manchester United.
Mundo Deportivo, however, report that it is Barcelona who are willing to offer Mata an escape route this time, as they see him as a shrewd potential purchase.
The Catalan side are looking to strengthen with high quality players to provide depth, without upsetting the first team balance.
Mata would likely be available for much less than the €45m the Red Devils paid to land him back in 2014, under an increasingly desperate David Moyes.
Barcelona see Mata as ideal as he is a versatile playmaker who boasts a wealth of La Liga experience as well.
There is no guarantee that Mourinho will look to rid himself of Mata for the second time in a row, but the 28-year-old has not changed his playing style in the slightest.
While he still maintains exquisite technique, he offers nothing defensively and is not geared towards a system where players track back and form a defensive shield like the kind Mourinho subscribes to.
