French Open: Serena Williams beats Elina Svitolina to reach quarter-finals

World number one Serena Williams wasted little time in beating Elina Svitolina in their rain-delayed fourth-round match at the French Open.

The American beat Ukraine’s Svitolina, coached by four-time Roland Garros champion Justine Henin, 6-1 6-1.

Williams will play Carla Suarez Navarro or Yulia Putintseva in the last eight.

Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky beat Venus Williams 6-2 6-4, and unseeded Dutch player Kiki Bertens upset US 15th seed Madison Keys 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

Later on Wednesday in Paris, Novak Djokovic completes his match against Roberto Bautista Agut, before Britain’s Andy Murray plays Richard Gasquet.
