FIFA have revealed the 10 nominees for The Best footballer of the 2018-19 season. After announcing the nominees in the female and coaching categories — with Barça’s Carlone Graham Hansen nominated — world football’s governing body moved on to the men.

The list is led by Lionel Messi, who is one of the big favourites to win the prize which has been claimed by Cristiano Ronaldo in each of the last two years. Another Barça player on the list is Frenkie de Jong, a summer arrival from Ajax for 75 million euros.

De Jong’s Dutch teammates Matthijs de Ligt and Virgil Van Dijk, Juventus and Liverpool defenders respectively, also appear, along with Ronaldo.

The other nominees are: Eden Hazard, Sadio Mané, Mbappé, Salah and Harry Kane.
