Wayne Rooney surprised wedding guests by posing for photographs after indulging in late-night drinking session, it has been reported.
Rooney, 31, joined England teammates at the upmarket The Grove Hotel in Watford, Hertfordshire, on Saturday, apparently to celebrate their win over Scotland the previous night.
Wearing an England shirt, Rooney appeared happy to be recognised as the team enjoyed rounds of beer and red wine with members of the FA, a source told the Sun.
The father-of-three reportedly stayed on after most of the group turned in for the night.
The source told the newspaper: ‘His speech was slurred, his lips were red with wine and his eyes were red.
‘At midnight he was asked if he would come and say hello to guests at a private wedding party.’
The source added: ‘He was really s***-faced. He was not a pretty sight by the time he left around 1am.’
Rooney captained England as they beat Scotland 3-0 in the World Cup qualifying match at Wembley on Friday night.
An FA spokesman told the Sun the England team were given time off over the weekend and did not need to report back until Sunday afternoon.
Yesterday England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed Rooney will not start England’s clash against Spain on Tuesday night.
